Top Kuwaiti parliamentarians laud UNSC resolution 2401 on E. Ghouta

KUWAIT, Feb 25 (KUNA) -- The State of Kuwait's top lawmakers released statements Sunday lauding the country's achievement at the UNSC, which resulted in resolution 2401 on the halt of hostilities in Syria's Eastern Ghouta.
In a statement by Speaker of the National Assembly Marzouq Al-Ghanim, the top lawmaker lauded the resolution, which will allow a 30-day ceasefire in the Syrian territory.
The decision, which resulted from a Kuwaiti-Swedish draft resolution, will hopefully allow the unhindered distribution of humanitarian aid, affirmed Speaker Al-Ghanim.
Al-Ghanim congratulated Kuwait's leadership and people on the success of the Kuwaiti bid, stressing that it reflected Kuwait's strong stance on resolution the situation in Syria.
On his part, Acting Speaker of the National Assembly Issa Al-Kanderi congratulated Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah on the success of Kuwaiti diplomacy in passing the resolution.
Resolution 2401 is an important step that will contribute to the global efforts to bring a peaceful resolution in Syria, said Al-Kanderi.
The UNSC approved the Kuwaiti-Swedish draft to allow a ceasefire and the possibility delivering aid. The Syrian regime's attacks on Eastern Ghouta had killed more than 400 people and injured over 1,000 others. (end) ays.ysa.gta
