KUWAIT, Feb 24 (KUNA) -- His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah thanked Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, Kuwait's UN ambassador Mansour Al-Otaibi and Kuwait Mission members for efforts leading to adoption of UN resolution on Syria.
His Highness the Amir thanked them for their diplomatic efforts within the UN Security Council (UNSC) towards tabling, with Sweden, UN draft resolution over humanitarian situation.
These efforts resulted Saturday in a unanimous approval of resolution 2401, which established a truce in Syria to allow delivery of humanitarian aid.
These efforts, His Highness the Amir said in his cable to Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled, came in light of escalation in Eastern Ghouta that killed and injured hundreds of people.
His Highness the Amir commended the "great success of Kuwait diplomacy."
He thanked all UNSC member countries, specially five permanent members for their "positive and constructive positions and their approval on draft resolution, as they realized how critical the situation in Syria is and the consequent humanitarian disasters."
His Highness the Amir hoped the UN resolution would mark anew phase of peace and stability in Syria and the region.
His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah sent a cable to Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled to thank the ministry, Ambassador Al-Otaibi and the members of the Mission for their "diplomatic efforts" that led to adoption of the resolution.
His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Mubaral Al-Hamad Al-Sabah sent a similar cable. (end)
