UN Security Council to vote on draft on Syria Saturday

NEW YORK, Feb 23 (KUNA) -- The UN Security Council decided Friday to put off until tomorrow the voting on a draft resolution envisaging a 30-day cessation of hostilities in Syria's Eastern Ghouta.
The voting on the draft, jointly put forward by Kuwait - Council President for February - and Sweden, will take place at 12:00 midday (US Eastern Time Zone) tomorrow, Kuwait Representative to the UN Mansour Al-Otaibi told reporters.
The postponement aimed to allow more deliberations on the draft and narrow the gaps among the UNSC members on a humanitarian truce in the conflict, he said.
Ambassador Al-Otaibi voiced hope that the Council's permanent members will reach consensus on an immediate end to the bloodshed in Eastern Ghouta, located some 15 km. to the east of the Syrian capital city of Damascus. (pickup previous) asf.gb
