Min. reiterates importance of boosting pan-GCC health coop

KUWAIT, Feb 21 (KUNA) -- Minister of Health Dr. Basil Al-Sabah on Wednesday stressed eagerness to enhance health cooperation among the GCC countries for achieving sustainable development goals.
Addressing the two-day first GCC conference on cosmetic and reconstruction (of body damage), organized by Al-Babtain Center for Burns and Plastic Surgery, the minister said the Gulf gathering aims to exchange expertise and promote efficiencies in the field.
Ministry's Assistant Undersecretary for Public Health Affairs at Ministry of Health Dr. Majda Al-Qattan delivered the statement on behalf of the minister.
Conference President Dr. Qutaiba Al-Kandari said the organizing committee seeks through 18 lectures to develop cosmetic reconstructive surgeries, paving the way for an international conference slated for next year.
Al-Kandari, who is also head of the Al-Babtain Center's cosmetic and reconstruction surgeries department, noted the conference lectures would be given by seniors from the GCC member states on skin diseases prevention and treatment, and the latest development in weight loss surgeries.
They will also cover treatment of ear, nose, throat (ENT) and the impact of skin diseases on beauty of a face, in addition to eye medicine and surgeries and nutrition and its effect on cosmetic treatment.
Receiving up to 22,000 people last year, Al-Babtin Center has so far conducted 1,200 plastic surgeries, Al-Kandari said. (end) ndq.yms.msa
