AMMAN, Feb 19 (KUNA) -- Jordan King Abdullah II underlined the importance Monday of promoting relations with Turkey to the highest levels and continue coordination and consultation, to serve the Islamic nation's causes and enhance regional security and stability.
Jordanian news agency (Petra) published King Abdullah's remarks during a meeting with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu for a discussion of bilateral ties and current regional developments.
The Jordanian leader also tackled ways to expand economic and trade cooperation between Jordan and Turkey to achieve their common interests.
Cavusoglu mentioned his government intention in reviewing a free trade agreement between the two countries to facilitate the entry of Jordanian goods to the Turkish market.
The Turkish minister also noted that his country is looking forward to using the southern port of Aqaba as a regional center for the entry of Turkish exports to various markets, especially in Africa.
The meeting dealt with focused on challenges facing the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem and efforts exerted by Jordan to protect these sites, as part of the Hashemite custodianship over Jerusalem's holy sites.
The two sides also addressed developments in Syria, stressing the importance of reaching a political solution to the crisis that preserves the country's unity and territorial integrity, through the Geneva process. (end) mjb.mb
