KUWAIT, Feb 19 (KUNA) -- 1904 -- The British government approves establishment of a post office in Kuwait. On February 28, 1904, Sheikh Mubarak Al-Sabah approves the decision and bans any other country from opening a post office in the country.
1967 -- Crown Prince and Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah opens the chemical manure factory.
1971 -- Kuwait establishes diplomatic relations with Sri Lanka.
1980 -- The constitution revising committee holds its first meeting, attended by Crown Prince and Prime Minister Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Al-Sabah.
1986 -- Al-Ahmadi port refinery modernization project was launched. Al-Ahmadi refinery opened in 1949 with a production capacity of 25,000 barrels per day. The refinery was revamped several times reaching a total production rate of 420,000 barrels per day.
1995 -- The Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah issues law on judicial arbitration in civil and commercial cases.
2002 -- Kuwait handball team wins the Asian Cup, after claiming victory over Qatar with a 29/25 score, during the 10th Asian tournament for handball held in Iran.
2005 -- Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah lays cornerstone of the university city in Al-Shedadiya, which covers an area of 4.9 million square meters and includes two campuses, 14 colleges, a university hospital, and other service and administrative facilities costing at a cost of KD 1.9 billion.
2007 -- The National Assembly discusses grilling Health Minister Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah Al-Sabah, which was requested by MPs Dr. Waleed Al-Tabtabaie, Dr. Jamaan Al-Herbish and Ahmad Al-Shuhomi. The MPs accused the minister of being responsible for administrative and financial violations, mistreating experienced professionals, and causing the decline of health services. On the same day, 10 MPs called for a non-confidence motion, which led to the government resignation on March 4th.
2008 -- Om Qadeer area, southern Kuwait was hit with an earthquake measuring 3.9 on the Richter scale. The quake did not cause damage or casualties.
2014 -- Kuwait Airways signs an agreement with Airbus to buy 25 modern airplanes in line with its development plan. (end) hb
