EU welcomes election of new South African President

BRUSSELS, Feb 15 (KUNA) -- The EU welcomed Thursday the swearing-in of Cyril Ramaphosa as new President of South Africa earlier today.
"The democratic transition of leadership has clearly illustrated the strength of South Africa's institutions, its constitutional system and political landscape," said EU high Representative Federica Mogherini in a statement tonight.
The EU foreign policy chief said she looks forward to working closely with the new President and to enhancing further long standing EU-South Africa partnership for the years to come. (end) nk.ibi
