S. Korean Pres. calls for int'l support for N. Korea-US dialogue

TOKYO, Feb 15 (KUNA) -- South Korean President Moon Jae-in called Thursday for international support to possible talks between North Korea and the US, Yonhap News Agency reported.
Moon expressed hopes that inter-Korean dialogue forged by North Korea's participation in the PyeongChang Winter Olympics being held in South Korea could help set the stage for talks between North Korea and the US.
Moon made the comments as he expressed gratitude to Norway for supporting South Korea's policy toward North Korea, during a summit with Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg in Seoul.
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has offered to hold a summit with Moon in Pyongyang through his younger sister, Kim Yo-jong, in a dramatic gesture of reconciliation after years of tensions and provocations.
The influential sister visited South Korea last week as a special envoy of the North Korean leader and met with Moon. She attended the opening ceremony of the Winter Games.
US Vice President Mike Pence said Wednesday nothing will change until the North abandons its nuclear ambitions, and the US and the international community will "consider any change in posture" only when the regime "completely, verifiably and completely" discards its missile programs, according to the Axios news website.
