Florida police arrest perpetrator of deadly school shooting

WASHINGTON, Feb 14 (KUNA) -- The gunman who caused "numerous fatalities" Wednesday at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, south Florida, is now in custody, according to the Broward County Sheriff's Office.
The Office indicated that there were at least "14 victims in the incident" but it was unclear how many deaths.
The shooter is an approximately 18 years old white male and had attended the school in the past, Sheriff Scott Israel told reporters.
The school was locked down and students were escorted outside or were told to remain barricaded inside.
A motive for the shooting has yet to be determined.
President Donald Trump and Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen spoke with Florida Governor Rick Scott and offered federal assistance if needed and will continue to monitor any further developments, the White House said.
"My thoughts and prayers are with the students, their families and the entire community. We will continue to receive briefings from law enforcement and issue updates," said Scott in a tweet. (pickup previous) ak.gb
