GCC chief stresses EU key role in maintaining region's security

RIYADH, Feb 12 (KUNA) -- Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretary General Abdullatif Al Zayani has affirmed the key role of the European Union (EU) in preserving the Middle East region's security and stability as well as contributing to enhancing its development march.
This came in a press statement during a meeting held in Riyadh between Al Zayani and a delegation from the European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee headed by Chairman David McAllister.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed the joint European-Gulf cooperation ties and coordination, and means of developing them in all domains to serve their common interests, the statement said.
They also touched upon developments of political situations in the region as well as issues of common concern, it noted.
Al Zayani emphasized the deep-rooted relations between GCC states and the EP, as well as their keenness on promoting them to ensure the achievement of mutual interests, the statement concluded. (end) od.hm
