Cairo welcomes US terror designations of two Egyptian groups

CAIRO, Feb 1 (KUNA) -- The Egyptian government on Thursday welcomed the US terror designation of two groups, suggesting both are linked to the Muslim Brotherhood political party.
The move, to list Liwa Al-Thawra and HASM, was hailed as a "positive development" and an expression of solidarity with Egypt against terrorism, in a Foreign Ministry statement.
It "shows that Egypt's allies, particularly the US, achnowledge the danger of the terrorist (Muslim) Brotherhood group, and other groups and organisations affiliated with it, to the security and stability of Egypt and its people," it added.
The US terrorist designations, announced on Wednesday, also listed the politbureau chief of Palestinian political party, Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh, and Palestinian movement, Harakat Al-Sabireen. (end) rg.sd
