France, Germany call for speedy EU reforms

PARIS, Jan 19 (KUNA) -- French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel called on Friday for speeding up reforms of the European Union (EU).
They told a joint conference ideas to strengthen the EU role should be provided before next March.
France needs Germany to achieve huge EU reforms, said Macron.
"Our ambitions cannot materialize by their own because they should be joined by the German ambitions," he added.
Merkel said France and Germany should join hands to find many solutions to thorny issues facing the EU, like the foreign policy, development, defense, science, immigration and environment protection.
Merkel, who was under immense pressure to form a new government, said there should be a stable government in Germany in order to move at the European level. (end) mjz.bs
