KUWAIT, Jan 1 (KUNA)
1912 -- Modern medical services were provided to women for the first time by theAmerican Missionary Hospital in Kuwait.
1955 -- The State of Kuwait founded a pension fund for civil servants and retirees. 1961 ÂÂ Kuwait's first monthly magazine "Huna AlKuwait" (This is Kuwait) hit the stands as a supplement of "Homat AlÂWatan" (Protectors of the Country), the mouthpiece of the Ministry of Defense. The magazine was then renamed "Al-Kuwait" and published by the Ministry of Information. It tackled a wide range of cultural, intellectual, news and local subjects as well as artistic matters and poetry.
1962 -- Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development launched its activities by handing out loans to Arab and developing nations to help finance development schemes.
1967 -- The American Hospital was inaugurated.
1970 -- The first issue of "Alam AlÂFikr" (World of Intellect), a periodic magazine dealing with modern intellectual issues, hit the stands.
1973 -- Kuwait Aviation Fuelling Company (KAFCO) became a subsidiary of Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC). Its main business is supplying the local market need of imported jet fuel and kerosene produced at AlÂShuaiba refinery.
1975 -- The foodstuff subsidy card for citizens, issued by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, was implemented.
1975 -- Kuwait University's first issue of the "Journal of the Gulf and Arabian Peninsula Studies" was published. The quarterly publication deals with Gulf and Arab Peninsula affairs.
1978 -- The first issue of "Alam AlÂMaarifa" (World of Knowledge), a cultural publication of the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters, saw light.
1983 -- Al-Rawdatain water company began producing bottled water from the oil field bearing the same name, at a capacity of 170,000 liters per day.
1984 -- The first issue of "Kitab AlÂArabi" (Book of the Arab), a periodical dealing with a number of issues discussed by a single author or one issue discussed by several authors, hits the stands.
1991 -- Kuwait Radio started transmission. (end)
