Today in Kuwait's history

KUWAIT, Dec 16 (KUNA) -- 1973 -- Kuwait Industrial Bank was established with a KD-10-million capital. It was the first bank specialized in financing industrial development in the Gulf region.
1978 -- The National Cleaning Company was established.
1987 -- The scientific publishing council was established as affiliate to Kuwait University.
1998 -- Kuwait and Myanmar establish diplomatic relations at ambassadorial level.
2002 -- The National Assembly renews confidence in Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Talal Al-Ayyar after a nine-hour grilling session.
2003 -- The National Assembly approvs bills allowing foreign banks to open branches in Kuwait and GCC citizens to own properties in the country.
2009 -- National Assembly renews confidence in His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad during a closed session held on a request by the cabinet.
2011 -- UNSC urges Iraq to fully pay its due compensations to Kuwait. It also called on Baghdad to provide full information regarding missing Kuwaitis.
2012 -- National Assembly holds first session of its 14th legislative term. MP Ali Al-Rashed was elected as Speaker of Parliament. (end) hb
