WASHINGTON, Dec 15 (KUNA) -- US President Donald Trump spoke with Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin about reigning in North Korea's nuclear program, the White House confirmed late Thursday.
According to a brief White House statement, the two leaders discussed "working together to resolve the very dangerous situation in North Korea." Secretary of State Rex Tillerson will join members of the United Nations Security Council on Friday to discuss putting "maximum pressure" on North Korea to abandon its nuclear weapons program just days after he appeared to extend an olive branch to Pyongyang.
The country hit a milestone in its ballistic missile program last month when it announced its latest missile test had the capability of reaching the US mainland.
During their talk, Trump also thanked Putin for his comments on America's strong economic performance during a nearly four hour annual press conference in Moscow. (end) hy.mb
