Haley: Iran's actions violate UN Security Council resolution

WASHINGTON, Dec 14 (KUNA) -- US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley said a new UN report provides "devastating evidence" that Iran is arming Houthi rebels in Yemen, "all of which violate UN resolutions," she said during a press conference at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling.
The UN presented a report Thursday on resolution 2231, which endorsed the Iranian nuclear agreement, calling Iran not to undertake any activity related to ballistic missiles for eight years.
Haley presented what she said was recovered pieces of a missile fired by the Houthis into Saudi Arabia bearing "Iranian missile fingerprints." "It's hard to find a conflict or a terrorist group in the Middle East that does not have Iran's fingerprints all over it," said Haley.
From the Department of Defense, Spokesperson Laura Seal said the missiles Haley presented provides, "evidence so that we, our allies and international partners -- including organizations like the (United Nations) -- can be clear eyed about Iran's activities as we work together." She shed light on the new strategy President Donald Trump announced in October "to address the totality of Iranian threats and malign activities: nuclear; ballistic missile development and proliferation; counter-maritime operations; cyber; and support to terrorism and unconventional warfare." She added "part of the president's strategy is to clearly show how Iran continues to defy the international community by violating United Nations resolutions." Specifically, the hangar contains "objects that provide evidence of Iranian weapons proliferation in violation of UN Security Council resolutions 2216 and 2231," Seal said.
The display is the first step of US strategy to clearly show how Iran continues to defy the international community. "It is clear Iran is arming dangerous militia and terror groups with advanced weaponry to sow instability and violence," Seal stressed.
The US wants Iran to act as a responsible nation and enhance security and stability in a region that has suffered from Tehran's efforts to undermine international order by instigating violence and political chaos," she remarked. (end) ak.ibi
