Tillerson to take part in UN ministerial on non-proliferation, N. Korea

WASHINGTON, Dec 14 (KUNA) -- US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson will participate in a UN Security Council ministerial briefing on non-proliferation and North Korea on Friday in New York, the State Department announced late Wednesday.
Tillerson "will reiterate that the United States and the international community will not stand by while North Korea continues to develop nuclear and missile capabilities that openly threaten international peace and security," said the statement from department's spokeswoman Heather Nauert.
Tillerson "will continue to call on all member states to work together and maintain maximum pressure on the DPRK (Democratic People's Republic of Korea) in order to compel North Korea to abandon its nuclear and ballistic missile programs," Nauert said.
Tillerson will also meet with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, she said. (end) rm.hb
