Eurostat: Employment reaches highest level in EU

BRUSSELS, Dec 13 (KUNA) -- The number of persons employed increased by 0.4 percent in the euro area and by 0.3 percent in the EU in the third quarter of 2017 compared with the previous quarter, according to figures published by Eurostat, the EU statistical office, Wednesday.
Eurostat estimates that in the third quarter of 2017, 236.3 million men and women were employed in the EU, of which 156.3 million were in the euro area.
"These are the highest levels ever recorded in both areas, it said.
EU Commissioner for Employment, Marianne Thyssen, in a separate statement said "employment has never been as high as now in both the EU and the euro area. Job creation has been the top priority of this Commission and our efforts are paying off." (end) nk.gta
