KUWAIT, Dec 13 (KUNA) -- 1954 -- The Publications Directorate was established by a decision of the Higher Executive Committee, and Bader Khalid Al-Bader was appointed its director.
1972 -- Rashid Al-Saif, a renowned poet and scholar, passed away.
1993 -- Al-Dhuba'iya power generation plant reopened after its reconstruction. The plant was destroyed during the Iraqi occupation of Kuwait.
1997 -- UN Secretary General Kofi Annan was awarded an honorary PhD from Kuwait University in appreciation for his role in supporting international peace.
2005 -- Kuwait hosted the 75th meeting of OPEC oil and energy ministers.
2005 -- An Amiri decree was issued for the establishment of the Aviation Technology College.
2006 -- His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah headed the first meeting of the Higher Council for Governorates' Affairs.
2006 -- Morocco's King Mohammad VI granted His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah the Mohammadi Medal in appreciation for his leading role in strengthening relations between Kuwait and Morocco.
2006 -- Kuwait's Abdullah Al-Otaibi won the gold medal for the 70-kg karate contest during the 15th Asian Games held in Doha, Qatar, while his countryman Ahmad Muneer bagged the gold medal for the 80-kg category.
2009 -- Amiri decree 23/2009 issued in agreement with the GCC states intentions to launch a monetary federation.
2010 -- Ministry of Finance issued decree to set the ceiling of monthly salaries at KD 1,500. The decree took effect on March of 2011.
2011 -- His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah honored former head of the International Islamic Charity Organization (IICO) Yousef Al-Hajji and famous Kuwaiti Philanthropist Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Sumait for their role in voluntary service and humanitarian efforts. (end) mb
