TUNIS, Dec 12 (KUNA) -- The Director General of the Arab League's Educational Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALESCO) Dr. Saud Al-Harbi has vowed that the regional faction would soon regain its splendor as a bastion of Arab culture.
Addressing the 108th session of ALESCO's executive committee, he said that the Arab organization should secure adequate funding and pair up with other regional bodies in order to ensure a prosperous future.
He highlighted the need for ALESCO to go back to the drawing board and sort out its priorities, saying that the fight against terrorism and efforts to preserve core Arab values remain perennial concerns.
Al-Harbi denounced US President Donald Trump's decision to move the American embassy to Jerusalem and recognize the sacrosanct city as the capital of Israel, which he said calls into question US commitment to peace in the Middle East.
Meanwhile, Mohammad Salem, the head of ALESCO's executive committee, hoped that the regional bloc's strategy for the forthcoming years would help pave the way for future growth, which hinges on foolproof financial plans.
The three-day ALESCO session, which kicked off earlier on Tuesday, will examine the latest activities the organization has taken up, including financial and educational strategies. (end) ksj.nam
