US plans "significant security measures" after NY bus terminal attack

WASHINGTON, Dec 11 (KUNA) -- The US said on Monday it plans to adopt "significant security measures" to prevent terrorists from entering the country after a Bangladeshi man, who injured himself in an attempted attack on New York's main bus terminal, was earlier arrested.
Bangladeshi national, Akayed Ullah, 27, blew himself up in a busy midtown Manhattan bus terminal causing injuries to his own hands and body and another three people.
Based on intitial investigations, the attacker, who has been living with family in Brooklyn, is said to have operated on a lone wolf basis and was inspired by the actions of so-called Islamic State group.
"The Department of Homeland Security is taking appropriate action to protect our people and our country in the wake of today's attempted terrorist attack in New York City," Secretary Kristjen Neilsen said.
"We will continue to assist New York authorities with the response and investigation and we urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity," Neilsen said in statement.
The Trump administration is adopting "significant security measures" aimed at keeping terrorist from entering the US and recruiting within the country, she added. (end) hy.sd
