Post-IS Iraq has golden opportunity to regain stability - analyst

MANAMA, Dec 10 (KUNA) -- Iraq has a golden opportunity to regain stability if it hosts successful elections and omits sectarianism, corruption and nepotism on a government level after defeating Islamic State, experts said on Sunday.
It is imperative that Baghdad maintains gains made after the government's recent announcement it had regained all lands previously occupied by the group, analysts at think tank-hosted discussions here viewed.
Military victories must be backed by a political success, said London School of Economics and Political Science Middle East Centre Director Tony Dodge at the International Institute for Strategic Studies' (IISS) Manama Dialogue.
The government should not marginalise the society and has to provide better services to all, regardless of religious, sectarian or political background, added the professor.
Speaking about the fight against terror, John Raine, IISS Senior Adviser for Geopolitical Due Diligence, reestablished the common view that these efforts should not be solitary and should be a group contribution.
The 13th Manama Dialogue, which kicked off on Friday, ends today. Kuwait's National Security Bureau chief Sheikh Thamer Al-Ali Al-Sabah attended the discussions. (end) hmd.sd
