KUWAIT, Dec 10 (KUNA) -- The French and German embassies in Kuwait have collectively presented a young civil activist with an award for his efforts to promote human rights and the rule of law.
Speaking to the press on the sidelines of a ceremony where Kuwaiti national Abdullah Al-Khanaini received the "Franco-German Human Rights Prize", French ambassador to Kuwait Christian Nakhla said that the French and German embassies have joined forces to honor a Kuwaiti youngster deserving of that accolade.
In spite of the "stiff competition", he pointed out that it was no surprise that a Kuwaiti was among the winners of this award, given the country's penchant for humanitarian endeavors.
Nakhla also heaped praise on Kuwait for the greater freedom of press the country enjoys over many of its neighbors, which reflects the Kuwaiti leadership's commitment to human rights principles.
Meanwhile, Germany's ambassador to Kuwait Karlfried Bergner said that this year's award coincides with "Human Rights Day", where standout human rights activists have been recognized for their contributions.
He added that Al-Khanaini's innovative projects were highly distinct, saying that the award should serve as an incentive for human rights activists all over the globe.
On winning such a prestigious award, Al-Khanaini attributed it to the efforts of a team of experts who worked alongside him, promising to continue pursuing human rights issues with undiminished zeal and spirit. (end) nma.nfa.nam
