Arab World Institute (IMA) condemns Trump decision on Jerusalem

PARIS, Dec 7 (KUNA) -- Arab World Institute (IMA) President Jack Lang on Thursday strongly condemned the decision a day earlier by US President Donald Trump to recognise Jerusalem as Israel's capital, calling the decision "totally irresponsible," a statement from the Institute said.
The Paris-based body warned that the decision by the US leader was fanning the flames of tension in the Mideast region and flew in the face of the position of the international community on the subject of Jerusalem, whose destiny is a "final status" issue to be decided between Palestinians and Israelis as part of a peace deal.
"I condemn with the most extreme firmness the decision of American President Donald Trump," Lang said in a statement.
"Once again, the American President is going against the international community, has chosen provocation instead of wisdom and is therefore pursuing a unilateral and destructive policy," he warned, also criticising Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu for having pushed the US on this decision.
"This unilateral decision is contrary to international law," Lang affirmed, noting that the status of Jerusalem must be decided by the parties in line with UN Security Council resolutions.
"There is no alternative to a two-State solution," the Arab World Institute Chief declared. (end) jk.ibi
