BRUSSELS, Dec 6 (KUNA) -- Several Members of the European Parliament called on the European Union Wednesday to revise its trade and political policies towards Iran.
Gerard Deprez, chair of Friends of a Free Iran in the European Parliament, said European governments must put as conditions on Iran to improve human rights situation and stop executions in the country before normalising relations with Tehran.
Deprez, an MEP from Belgium, who had organised the conference on Iran this evening, called on the Iranian regime to stop interfering in Syria, Iraq, Yemen and Lebanon.
Anthea Mcintyre, an MEP from the UK, accused the EU of ignoring the atrocities being committed in Iran and called on EU High Representative Federica Mogherini to "end all diplomatic and trade relations with Iran." Ryszard Czarnecki, a vice president of the European Parliament, called on the EU not to normalise ties with Iran till it accepts and implements democratic values.
The main speaker at the event was President-elect of National Council of Resistance of Iran, Maryam Rajavi who is based in Paris.
In her speech she said "EU can play a positive role in peace and stability in the Middle East" If it "conditions all trade and commercial relations with the regime on end to executions in Iran." She said the EU should demand immediate expulsion of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards and its proxies from Syria and other countries in the region and demand immediate halt to the Iran's ballistic missile program, "otherwise impose severe sanctions on the regime's oil exports and access to international banking system."
