Kuwait ready to host 38th GCC Summit on December 5-6
KUWAIT, Dec 5 (KUNA) -- The State of Kuwait, after a long period of preparations, is ready to host the 38th Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) later Tuesday in an event reflecting unity amongst Gulf countries.
Various state officials in addition to numerous national bodies carried out their respective preparations for the important GCC meeting.
In a step signifying Kuwait's commitment to the success of the summit, His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah personally inspected preparations by visiting Al-Tahrir Hall at Bayan Palace, the main venue for the high-level meeting.
In addition to that, top officials such as First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah assured readiness to the host the summit.
Meanwhile, a top official at the media center, tasked with covering the event, said that the facility was ready.
During the official opening ceremony of the facility, head of the center Mohammad Al-Baddah said that they would provide the 200 media personnel from local, regional and international outlets with the latest tools and necessary services to enable them to cover the summit.
He also pointed out that there was another media center located at Bayan Palace, the venue of the summit, where reporters can carry out their job.
He indicated that the foreign media department in the Information Ministry has prepared an itinerary for the news reporters who will go on field trips to become acquainted with Kuwait's various cultural and touristic sites.
In preparation for the summit, schools in some areas will close Tuesday during the 38th GCC Summit.
In a press release, the Ministry of Education said that some schools in Farwaniyah, Hawalli, and the capital educational districts would be closed due to the holding of the summit.
The closure might be extended to Wednesday to prevent traffic congestions, said the ministry.
Similarly, the Health and Interior Ministries released statements, expressing their readiness during the course of the summit.
Some roads will be blocked today due to the arrival of several participating delegations.
In a press statement, the ministry said that the airport road leading to the King Faisal highway, the Sheikh Zayed (fifth ring road), in addition to roads leading from and to the fifth ring road, the King Faisal highway, and the Fahaheel highway will all be blocked from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Local-time on December fifth.
The ministry asked citizens and expatriates to cooperate with the traffic police during the specified date and times.
Last Friday, Kuwait hoisted the national flags of fellow Gulf countries in a gesture to welcome the country visitors. (end) tg.sd.gta
