Yemen's ex-pres. urges uprising against Houthi militia

KUWAIT, Dec 2 (KUNA) -- Yemen's former President Ali Abdallah Saleh Saturday called on Yemeni people to revolt against Houthi militias, and offered a "new chapter" with neighbouring countries.
Saleh said in a live TV address that Houthi militias are mainly to blame for the current situation in Yemen, CNN reported.
He slammed Houthi militias amid fierce battles between his forces and Iran-backed militias in the capital Sanaa.
Saleh called for a joint ceasefire to be agreed on by his loyalists and Houthi militias, after clashes entered their fourth day and have resulted in the deaths of scores of people.
The former Yemeni president said that Houthis militias are to blame for the Saudi-led Arab coalition's military intervention in Yemen.
Saleh urged an end to "militia rule on Yemeni land", adding that Houthis had continued their "provocative acts against Yemeni citizens." Furthermore, he demanded that armed Yemeni forces refrain from taking any orders from Houthi militias, and called for "opening a new chapter with neighbouring countries." "We will open a new chapter with them, and deal with them in a positive way," he added. (end) tma.mt
