Belgian woman stripped of citizenship for recruiting fighters

BRUSSELS, Dec 1 (KUNA) -- The Court of Appeal in Brussels ruled Friday that a 58-year-old women convicted of recruiting youngsters to fight in Afghanistan be stripped of her Belgian citizenship.
Malika El Aroud who held both Belgian and Moroccan citizenship now only has Moroccan citizenship. In 2010 she was sentenced to 8 years in prison and fined 5,000 euro (USD 5900) for terrorist-related offences, Belgian media reported today.
In 2014 proceedings were launched to strip El Aroud of her Belgian citizenship. Her lawyer took the case to the Constitutional Court. Now the Court of Appeal has decided that she should lose her Belgian citizenship.
She and her late husband set up a website to recruit young men to go and fight alongside the Taliban in Afghanistan. (end) nk.mt
