Unemployment in EU drops to lowest rate since '08

BRUSSELS, Nov 30 (KUNA) -- The EU unemployment rate was 7.4 percent in October, down from 7.5 percent in September and from 8.3 percent in October 2016. This is the lowest rate recorded in the EU since November 2008, according to figures published by Eurostat, the EU statistical office, on Thursday.
The euro area unemployment rate was 8.8 percent in October, down from 8.9 percent in September and from 9.8 percent in October 2016. This is the lowest rate recorded in the euro area since January 2009.
Eurostat estimates that 18.24 million men and women in the EU, of whom 14.34 million in the euro area, were unemployed in October. Compared with September, the number of persons unemployed decreased by 111, 000 in the EU and by 88, 000 in the euro area.
Compared with October 2016, unemployment fell by 2.07 million in the EU and by 1.47 million in the euro area. (end) nk.mt
