1954 -- Heavy rain fell on Kuwait, prompting 18,000 people flee their water-swamped houses and take shelter at schools and government buildings. A total of 500 houses were destroyed and 11 people were hospitalized for injuries.
1964 -- The Republic of Hungary inaugurated its embassy in the State of Kuwait and Hungary's first ambassador presented his credentials to the Amir Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah.
1965 -- The Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah appointed Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah as Prime Minister.
1974 -- Kuwait United Poultry Company was founded.
1978 -- Hassan Johar Hayat, former MP, passed away.
1999 -- The National Assembly voted against a law granting women right to vote and run for candidacy in elections.
2004 -- Kuwait Army announced martyrdom of non-commissioned officers Duaij Al-Rkaibi, Khalid Al-Ajmi and their trainer, Sergeant Mshari Al-A'zmi, when an RPG (rocket propelled grenade) accidentally exploded during training.
2004 -- Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah and South Korean National Defense Minister Yoon Kwang-ung signed a MoU on defense and military cooperation.
2004 -- Kuwait became the regional advisor for the International Union for Conservation of Nature.
2005 -- Kuwait Airways Corporation (KAC) Chairman and Managing Director Sheikh Talal Mubarak Al-Abdullah Al-Sabah was elected chairman of the Arab Air Transport Union.
2005 -- Latifa Essa Al-Rjaib, a leading woman activist and former undersecretary of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor, passed away at the age of 61.
2008 -- Kuwaiti swimmer Yousef Al-Askari, 14, won two gold medals at a championship held in the Dominican Republic. (end) mb
