Kuwait to organize training course on anti-corruption in Dec. - official

VIENNA, Nov 6 (KUNA) -- The State of Kuwait is planning to organize next December a training course, for the first time in the Middle East, to combat corruption, Chairman of Kuwait Anti Corruption Authority (Nazaha) Abdulrahman Al-Nemash said on Monday.
Al-Nemash made the statement at the 7th session of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption in Vienna.
He stressed that international cooperation constitutes a cornerstone in the area of combating corruption through promoting bilateral and multilateral cooperation amongst relevant international organizations.
The course, which will be held in cooperation with the International Anti-Corruption Academy, will bring together several international experts in this regard, he said.
He added that Kuwait has worked on developing its legislation and institutional supervisory mechanisms in the field of preventing and combating corruption in an extensive manner.
He went to say that Nazaha, which was established as an independent body, is tasked with implementing the UN convention in order to combat corruption, address its causes and promote cooperation in this respect as well as establish the principles of transparency and integrity in economic, financial and administrative transactions in accordance with the UN rules and provisions.
Kuwait has issued a number of laws and regulations on money laundering, funding terrorism and crimes of seizing public funds, he stated.
Al-Nemash revealed that the authority is preparing a comprehensive national strategy for integrity, transparency and combating corruption, including preparation for mechanisms, plans and programs, which implement the strategy's rules.
The authority also is setting another strategy aiming to achieve its objectives and facilitate its mission, he stressed.
He said the authority has prepared a group of bills to be compatible with demands of the implementation of the UN convention.
Al-Nemash, head of the Kuwaiti delegation to the session, welcomed efforts by the international community aiming to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). (end) amg.hm
