Belgium confirms arrest warrant for Puigdemont has arrived

BRUSSELS, Nov 3 (KUNA) -- A Belgian state prosecutor has confirmed that an European arrest warrant for the sacked president of Catalonia region in Spain, Carles Puigdemont has arrived, Belgian media reported tonight.
Spanish court also issued an arrest warrant for four other Catalan ministers who are in Belgium, noted the reports. The arrest warrant comes after the five yesterday did not appear before the court in Madrid.
Puigdemont had proposed that the court hearing be conducted via a videoconference from Brussels, but that request was rejected by the Spanish court.
Belgian prosecutors have 24 hours to decide whether the paperwork for the arrest warrant is correct. If so they have 15 days to arrest them.
The deposed Catalan leader and members of his government are being prosecuted in Spain for rebellion, sedition and abuse of government money. They face a maximum penalty of 30 years. (end) nk.bs
