Unilateral violation of Iran's nuclear deal "not acceptable" - Putin

TEHRAN, Nov 1 (KUNA) -- Russian President Vladimir Putin reiterated the importance of the nuclear deal with Iran for world stability, cautioning that a unilateral violation of the deal by any side would be unacceptable.
Moscow believes that a one-sided violation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) is not acceptable under any reason, President Putin said, using the official name of the nuclear deal.
The Russian leader warned that some countries' rejection to carry out their international duties and commitments is not acceptable.
His remarks were made during a meeting with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani held in Tehran Wednesday on the sideline the tripartite Iranian, Azeri and Russian summit.
He stressed that the JCPOA was a very good international accord, which served global peace and stability.
Putin identified the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) as the only body entitled to verify Iran's commitment to the JCPOA.
He also noted that the JCPOA has nothing to do with Iran's defense and missiles programs.
On the developments in Syria, he commended the significant role of Russia, Iran and Turkey in fight against terrorism.
He also called for bolstering cooperation and coordination among the three countries to help render intra-Syrian talks in Astana a real success.
On bilateral relations, the Russian president said the Islamic Republic of Iran is a good neighbor and strategic partner for Russia and both sides have ample of common interests which will be achieved through mutual cooperation.
He called for expansion of cooperation between Iran, Russia and Azerbaijan for transports, transit of goods as well as North-South corridor.
He expressed the hope that the meeting would lead to expansion of relations and cooperation between the parties.
Russian companies are eager to cooperate in various economic fields such as peaceful nuclear energy, road and rail transportations, he said, adding that the trade exchange between Iran and Russia registered a remarkable growth in 2016 and such trend should be continued. For his part, Iranian President Rouhani described Russia as Iran's friend, neighbor and strategic partner.
He stated that Iran was determined to broaden all-out relations and cooperation with Russia.
He pointed out that the JCPOA was a multilateral international agreement that would help bolster constant peace and stability in the region and the globe.
The role of Russia in bolstering and stability of JCPOA and fulfillment of commitments of all parties will be very impressive and important, President Rouhani said.
He affirmed that close cooperation between Iran and Russia in fight against terrorism in the region was very fruitful and promising and it is very important that such cooperation to be continued till the end of such fight.
Referring to Astana talks, Rouhani said Iran believed that countries in the region will suffer a lot due to instability in the region and Iran would support stability and security of the region, and believed that Syrian problems should be resolved through political means.
He called for giving impetus to bilateral, regional and international cooperation in various sectors. (end) fz.tb.ibi
