US adds Abdallah Azzam Brigades' alias to terror designation list

WASHINGTON, Nov 1 (KUNA) -- The US added the aliases of the Abdallah Azzam Brigades (AAB) terror group, Marwan Hadid Brigades, to its designated global terrorist list on Wednesday.
"These designations seek to deny AAB the resources it needs to carry out terrorist attacks, and today's actions further this goal by notifying the US public and the international community that AAB operates under and/or is known by other names," said a State Department release.
AAB was first designated a terrorist group in 2012 and has continued its operations since. This includes a June 2014 suicide bombing that killed one and wounded 37 at a Lebanese checkpoint and a separate car bombing the same month near Beirut.
Its alias, Mawrwan Hadid Brigades, has carried out attacks with Al-Nusrah and been involved with terrorist training in Syria, according to the State Department.
"Among other consequences of the group's designations, all of AAB's property and interests in property subject to US jurisdiction are blocked," it added. (end) ak.gta
