Belgian Senate Pres. visits Kuwait to boost bilateral relations

BRUSSELS, Oct 31 (KUNA) -- The President of the Belgian Senate Christine Defraigne embarks later Tuesday on her first visit to Kuwait with the aim to strengthen bilateral ties between Belgium and Kuwait.
Ahead of her departure, she told KUNA that the "goal of the mission is to have good bilateral relations between Belgium and Kuwait." She said she would discuss the development of relations with Kuwaiti parliamentarians and other officials during her three-day stay in the country.
The President of the Belgian senate said that she is very interested to learn about developments in Kuwait in particular about the parliament in the country.
Defraigne said that she would discuss with her Kuwaiti interlocutors the geopolitical situation in the region especially with neighbouring countries like Iran and Iraq.
She said she is very interested also to know about the issue of gender equality in Kuwait.
Defrainge, who is the President of the Belgian Senate since 2014, said she would also discuss the topic of renewable energy.
On his part, Ambassador Jasem Al-Budaiwi, the envoy of the state of Kuwait to the Kingdom of Belgium, asserted the importance of this visit, which comes in a time where both countries are enjoying an excellent bilateral relation in every aspect.
"The high level meetings that have been set for Defraigne reflect the importance Kuwait's rely on this visit which will definitely boost not only the parliamentarian relationship, but also the political coordination and the economic and trade exchange between Kuwait and Belgium," he told KUNA.
Ambassador Al-Budaiwi also highlighted that Defraigne will have a chance to meet a number of civil societies in Kuwait that deal with woman issues. Here, she will have a chance to discuss and learn Kuwait's effort toward empowering woman and measure's that have been taken by the state of Kuwait to protect woman's rights and to provide women in Kuwait with all sorts of opportunities and chances to excel, he added.
