KUWAIT, Oct 30 (KUNA) -- The Health Ministry's plans and strategies aim to address risk factors pertaining to chronic non-communicable diseases, said Minister Dr. Jamal Al-Harbi on Monday.
Al-Harbi made the statement in a speech during a celebration of honoring women cancer survivors, pointing out that confronting such risks is a main challenge facing the health systems in all countries of the world, including Kuwait.
He said the initiative of the first step team to honor the survivors reflected the key role of voluntary action for the prevention of cancer.
He called for concerted efforts by civil society organizations and public benefit associations in order to address this disease.
Al-Harbi explained that medical check-ups for the early detection of breast, colon, rectum and prostate cancer carried out by the ministry is an opportunity to guarantee a rise in rates of cancer treatment.
Meanwhile, Bader Al-Fadhli, head of the voluntary team, said the celebration aims to raise awareness of people on this disease through supporting patients.
The move also seeks to remove obstacles facing patients and helping them overcome diseases, he told KUNA in a statement.
The team seeks to educate the society on risks of diseases and ways of avoiding them, he said, adding that the team holds this celebration for the second time in a row through choosing 20 cancer survivors. (end) nq.hm
