Kurdish president Barzani to step down at end of Oct

IRBIL, Oct 29 (KUNA) -- Iraqi Kurdish President Masoud Barzani said on Sunday he would step down in November, urging elections in order to fill the vacant post.
In a letter to the region's parliament he said he would not be extending his term which expires at the end of October.
His resignation comes after the region held a referendum last month for the region to secede from Iraq.
However, the Baghdad central government deemed the vote illegal.
Kurdistan's elections' committee has postponed presidential and legislative elections until July 2018. (end) sbr.sd
