GENEVA, Oct 23 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's Deputy Foreign Minister Khaled Al-Jarallah Monday expressed satisfaction that the International Donor Conference for the Rohingya Refugees succeeded in pledging USD 335 million.
The outcome of the one-day conference and speeches of heads of delegations "reflected the feeling of the international community regarding the plight of the Rohingya Muslims, as well as the huge responsibility that Bangladesh was bearing for hosting them," Al-Jarallah told KUNA.
He said Kuwait, which co-chaired the conference, would continue its humanitarian role in line with guidance of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
The humanitarian action, he added, was in parallel with the political one. "We hope that the UN Security Council resolution helps in alleviating the suffering of the Rohingya Muslims," said Al-Jarallah.
He hoped the international community would agree on clear and binding criteria that would prevent recurrence of this crisis for the Rohingya Muslims.
Al-Jarallah announced earlier today a donation of USD 15 million for the Rohingya Refugees to alleviate their suffering.
The conference is co-organized by Kuwait, the European Union (EU), the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), International Organization for Migration (IOM), and the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). (pickup previous) ta.bs
