COXS BAZAR, Bangladesh, Oct 23 (KUNA) -- The number of Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh is extremely increasing on a daily basis since violence broke out in Myanmar last August.
Around 3,000 to 5,000 refugees flee out of Myanmar daily, a figure, Bangladesh says can not deal with.
Bangladesh, which became the largest country to host the escaping Rohingyas, refuses to recognize them as refugees and consider them illegal migrants hoping they will return back to their homeland soon.
The country is already suffering from bad economic conditions, and keeping around one million refugees will be a major burden on the country.
There are some 13 camps in Coxs Bazar, a city located about 70 kms away from the Myanmar border, where Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) is carrying out an ongoing humanitarian aid campaign to assist the weary travelers.
Representative of Turkey's Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH) Asia Manoor Hussain said in a statement to KUNA, that the Rohingya crisis in Myanmar started 70 years ago but got back to the political scene last August following one of the largest genocide operation against them, which forced them to flee out of their country in large numbers.
Rohingya refugees are living in very poor camps that lack the minimum of life potentials, she added.
"They need food, toilets, artesian wells, power lighting, and more importantly, they need jobs for more than 600,000 refugees", he added.
The international community is facing a big challenge in keeping these people alive and avoiding any humanitarian crisis, relief foundations have to insure basic needs for living, he said.
KRCS is currently working with Turkey's Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH) in distributing aid supplies at Coxs Bazar in collaboration with the Bangladeshi army.
The humanitarian aid campaign will continue till Tuesday October 24th.
According to UN estimates, around 3,000 Rohingya refugees escape across the border every day from Myanmar. The total number of those refugees has reached a total of half a million, including 300,000 children. (end) akw.nhq
