ROME, Oct 20 (KUNA) -- Interior Ministers of the G7 countries and representatives from social media companies agreed to cooperate against cyber-terrorism, as well as exchange of information over Syrian city of Raqqah.
This came during a meeting chaired by Italy, the current G7 president, and attended by officials from the European Commission, Interpol and Google, Microsoft, Facebook and Twitter.
Italian Interior Minister Macro Minniti, at a news conference following the meeting, said "today we began the first step of a big coalition between governments and biggest providers of servers ... to stop terror contents on the internet." He said the international community could win the battle against the shareware softwares, which fomented terrorism and hatred.
A statement by the meeting said the terrorist groups were using the internet to spread their ideologies, recruit people, call for attacks, provide guidance for followers and collect money for their operations.
This, it added, required cooperation between governments, industries and civil service societies to confront the terrorists' use of internet.
The participants agreed to work on locating, restricting and removing any terror contents while defending freedom of expression.
They also agreed to exchange information about Raqqah, Syria, which was described by Minniti as "an exceptional mine of information." (end) mn.bs
