KUWAIT, Oct 19 (KUNA) -- 1920 -- Sheikh Salem Al-Mubarak held negotiations with a delegation representing Al-Duweish tribe after the battle of Jahra. The British representative Kuwait attended the talks, held at the first popular coffee shop, called "Abu Nashi coffee shop." 1960 -- An Amiri Decree was issued announcing the dinar as the country's official currency unit.
1990 -- His Highness the Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah issued a Decree on protection of finances of citizens and residents of Kuwait during the Iraqi occupation of the state starting August 2, 1990.
1994 -- First edition of economic and political daily, "Al-Mu'tamar," hit the stands.
2000 -- Kuwaiti squash national team won the Gulf youth tournament, held in Bahrain.
2002 -- Kuwaiti Ambassador to Venezuela Sheikh Ali Al-Khaled was honored by the Venezuelan Foreign Minister for boosting cooperation and bilateral relations between the two countries.
2010 -- His Highness the Deputy Amir and Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah issued a Decree authorizing establishment of an architecture academy in Kuwait University.
2010 -- His Highness the Deputy Amir and Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah issued a Decree on establishment of an art academy.
2010 -- Ghanim Al-Saleh, a famous actor, died at 68.
2010 -- Chairman and Managing Director of Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) Sami Al-Rushaid opened the company's natural gas refinery at Al-Managish oilfield, West Kuwait.
2010 -- Minister of Oil and Minister of Information Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah opened the Islamic art exhibition in Milan, Italy.
2011 -- Japan voiced much appreciation for Kuwait's five million barrels of oil donation aiming to ease up repercussions of a tsunami that hit Japan on March 11, 2011.
2012 -- His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah delivered a speech to the citizens.
2013 -- Kuwaiti business icon Mustafa Jassem Boodai passed away at the age of 77 after a life full of contributions to the local banking, investment and insurance sectors. (end) mb
