Amending IPU stature, bylaw, grants added value, authority - Kuwaiti MP

SAINT PETERSBURG, Russia, Oct 18 (KUNA) -- Amending the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) stature is likely to give it added value and power to impose sanctions on member bodies that might violate the organizations' rules and systems, Kuwaiti MP Safaa Al-Hashim said on Wednesday.
Al-Hashim made the statement on the sidelines of the IPU's 137th Assembly in Petersburg, Russia. She is a member of the Kuwaiti delegation to the international parliamentary gathering.
She pointed to the strong participation of the Kuwaitis in the conference, and the fruitful talks with fellow delegations, especially regional ones.
On the election of the IPU President, Al-Hashim voiced pleasure over the two "woman" candidates for the top post, saying that both had a debate on Tuesday that addressed a host of issues relevant to the Arab and Muslim worlds, Europe and Latin America.
For his part, MP Mohammad Al-Dallal said the Kuwaiti delegation, led by National Assembly Speaker Marouq Ali Al-Ghanim, so effectively took part in the Assembly activities, together with the Arab and Muslim groups.
In press statements on the concluding day of the IPU Assembly, October 14-18, Al-Dallal added that the delegation so successfully won support to for the item on the Rohingya Muslims that overwhelmingly voted for an added on the Assembly agenda.
In addition, the Kuwaiti MPs were keen on meeting with the Mexican and Uruguayan nominees for the IPU presidency, and explore their views toward the causes of the Arab and Muslim nations.
