VIENNA, Sept 30 (KUNA) -- Muslims in Austria are considered a very important group in the Austrian elections game, especially with the fact that there are around 700,000 Muslims out of a population of 8.7 million, mostly of Turkish, Bosnian, and Arab origins.
Leaders of the political parties in Austria were asked by a number of recognized Islamic Organizations in Austria to state their opinion on Islam with full transparency to allow them to point out the right candidates for Muslim voters after recent terrorist attacks that targeted Europe.
The Austrian Muslim Initiative, which was supported by the Islamic Religious Authority of Austria, have asked the political parties leaders a number of questions to help them Muslims pick suitable to candidates.
The Austrian Muslim Initiative spokesperson, Tarafa Baghajati a Syrian-born, said that Austrian politicians should benefit from the Muslims votes by taking into account their interests.
Legislative elections will be held in Austria on the coming October 15, where more than six million voter will be voting in it.
According to polls, Foreign Minister, Sebastian Kurz's Austrian People's Party is in the lead with 33 percent, followed by the Social Democratic Party of Austria with 25 percent. (end)
