Today in Kuwait's history

KUWAIT, Sept 30 (KUNA) -- 1970 -- The State of Kuwait approved the agreement on establishing the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development endorsed by the Arab League on March 11, 1970.
1990 -- The Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah urged the first international summit on children in New York to support Kuwait's children in the face of the Iraqi oppression. The late Amir calls on the conferees to rush to the defense of the rights of Kuwaiti children who have been displaced from their homeland.
1996 -- Health Minister Abdul-Rahman Al-Muhailan inaugurated the Asaad Al-Hamad Dermatology Center financed by Khaled Abdul-Latif Al-Hamad.
1998 -- The Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah inaugurated Souk Sharq shopping mall as part of the third stage of the Kuwait Sea Front project. The shopping center is built on an area of 55,000 square meters at a cost of KD 35 million. It includes 70 shops, 20 fast-food outlets, three movie theaters, and a beautiful marina.
1998 -- Sawt Al-Kuwait (the voice of Kuwait), an English-language station was launched, targeting audiences in Southeast Asia, Europe, and North America.
2000 -- The Arab Regional Center for Environmental Law, sponsored by Kuwait University's Faculty of Law, and the World Conservation Union sign a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in developing a data bank for legal references on the internet on environment related legislation.
2001 -- Kuwaiti engineer Tareq Al-Ulaimi completed the "Engineering Data bank Project", the first of its kind in the Gulf and the Middle East. The project was financed by the Kuwaiti Manager Company and Kuwait Finance House.
2003 -- Implementation of national employment quotas commences in the private sector.
2003 -- Ministry of Finance signed a contract for the establishment of the Australian College of Kuwait over an area of 50,000 square meters.
2012 -- Kuwaiti General Administration of the Coast Guard participated, along with other 30 countries, in a maritime training to explore and demine naval mines in the Arabian Gulf. (end) mb
