Turkish forces kill 32 PKK elements

ANKARA, Sept 29 (KUNA) -- At least 32 members of Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) were killed in southeast Turkey and north Iraq, Anadolu Agency reported on Friday, citing a statement by the Turkish General Staff. These include three militants who were killed in airstrikes on PKK camps in northern Iraq's Avasin-Basyan region and six others who were killed in similar strikes in Turkey's southeastern Sirnak province.
In a related development, the Turkish security forces said they killed 23 PKK fighters in five eastern and southeastern provinces in the last 24 hours; they include 10 terrorists who were killed in Agri, eight in Sirnak, three in Hakkari and two in Van.
Five PKK elements also surrendered in Sirnak's Silopi district, according to a statement by the Interior Ministry.
A number of weapons and munitions were also seized during the operations, the statement added. The PKK, listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the US and the EU, resumed its armed campaign against Turkey in July 2015. Since then, it has been responsible for the deaths of around 1,200 Turkish security personnel and civilians. (end) rs.gb
