BEIRUT, Sept 28 (KUNA) -- A unified Arab effort is needed to face the negative impacts of climate change on the earth atmosphere, said a Kuwaiti official Thursday.
Speaking on the sideline of an UN Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia's (ESCWA) forum held in Beirut, representative of Kuwait's Ministry of Electricity and Water Khalifa Al-Furaij said that it was important to meet the challenges posed by climate change.
The ESCWA event focuses on the Regional Initiative for the Assessment of Climate Change Impacts on Water Resources and Socio-Economic Vulnerability in the Arab Region (RICCAR) Kuwait is not isolated from the temperatures increase and other ill effects of climate change, affirmed Al-Furaij, adding that the only way to counter the problem was through intensive cooperation amongst Arab countries.
He indicated that efforts should start from the national level before seeking a regional approach, affirming that this will provide a solid base for Arab efforts to bring on fruitful results.
The current ESCWA meeting will concluded today. ESCWA was formed in 1973 and the entity has its headquarters in Beirut. (end) ayb.gta
