Markel's CDU party wins German elections - initial results

BERLIN, Sept 24 (KUNA) -- German Chancellor Angela Merkel's Christian Democrat Union (CDU) won Sunday's general elections despite a remarkable drop in support, initial results showed.
According to the initial results, announced by the electoral commission, Markel's CDU came first with 32.5 percent of the votes, followed the Social Democratic Party (SPD) of Martin Shulz with 21 percent.
The right-wing anti-immigrants Alternative for Germany (AfD) captured around 13 percent, making it the country's third biggest political force.
Another three parties cleared the five-percent hurdle to representations: the liberal Free Democrats scoring around 10 percent, ecologist Greens scored about 9.5 percent and the anti-capitalist Left won nearly nine percent. (Pick up previous) anj.ibi
