Baghdad leadership plans reprisal for referendum -- Al-Abadi

BAGHDAD, Sept 24 (KUNA) -- Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar Al-Abadi on Sunday warned that the government planned measures in retaliation for the Kurds' insistence on holding the secession public vote Monday.
In televised remarks, the prime minister re-stated that he eyed the public referendum as breach of the constitution and threat to peaceful co-existence among segments of the Iraqi people.
"We will take steps later for safeguarding the country's unity," he said, without explaining nature of the planned measures.
Al-Ababdi said most of the Kurdish region problems were internal. "And they will deepen with the referendum." The problems in the Kurdish region are result of corruption and mismanagement, he said.
"Where the oil money has been going? .. they have been seizing some 900,000 barrels of oil per day .." Al-Abadi added. "Ask the officials in the (Kurdish) region why the oil proceeds are not included in a transparent account ..," he has charged further.
He accused the Kurdish leaders of misappropriating the oil funds at expense of ordinary citizens. (end0 ah.rk
