IRBIL, Sept 24 (KUNA) -- President of Iraq's Kurdistan Masud Barzani re-affirmed on Sunday that the referendum for separation from Baghdad would be held as scheduled on Monday.
"The referendum is some of the simplest democratic rights .. our people have taken the irreversible decision thus the referendum will be held tomorrow," Barzani said during a meeting with the UN chief representative in Iraq, Jan Kubis, at the Kurdish administration headquarters in Salah-Eddine.
He expressed concern at the UN stance opposing the public vote, "contrary to the endorsed international accords and documents." Barzani said he desired to hold dialogue with Baghdad on issues such as the borders.
The referendum is scheduled in the Iraqi Kurdistan including contested regions, namely Kirkuk.
International and regional powers have warned the Kurds against holding the public vote. (end) sbr.rk
