Three people wounded in attack on NATO troops in Afghanistan

ISLAMABAD, Sep 24 (KUNA) -- At least three Afghan civilians were injured in a suicide attack targeting a convoy of Danish troops in Afghanistan's capital Kabul on Sunday, said Ministry of Interior (MoI).
Najib Danish, a spokesman for the ministry, said that a suicide bomber in a car targeted the convoy of NATO-led troops in the limits of the 5th police district in Kabul. He confirmed that three civilians were injured in the incident and police whisked them to hospital for medical treatment. Meanwhile, a spokesman for NATO's Resolute Support mission, Captain William Salvin, noted that a team was on the scene to recover the vehicle. "There are no Resolute Support casualties as a result of the explosion," he added. The Afghan National Police Academy and other key government institutions are also located in the area.
According to local media, Taliban rebels claimed responsibility for the suicide attack, saying that a number of foreign forces have been killed or injured in the explosion. Three military vehicles were also destroyed in the bombing, the Taliban claimed.
NATO has nearly 13,000 troops in Afghanistan including 8,400 US troops, with an additional 3,000 troops expected to be deployed as part of US President Donald Trump's new policy for Afghanistan. (end) sbk.nam
